Will you be posting tidbits or spoilers of your fic again?

Hey, Anon!

Thanks for your question.  To answer it, yes, I will be posting some spoilers/sneak peeks of the next chapter.  Right now, I’m kind of debating exactly what to post since I don’t want to give away too much of what’s happening, and I’d like to map out more of the direction of the chapter before I post something that could very well be cut from the final draft.  I can tell you for certain that: 1) We will get to meet Quinn’s older sister and her family, 2) We’ll find out exactly what Rachel’s people released, and 3) Rachel and Quinn have a few steamy scenes as Sloane and Mia, but other than that, a lot is kind of floating around.  I’ll post something when I get a better feel for the chapter.

Thanks again for your question!

Hi, just curious to hear (read) your thoughts on some stuff: (a) It seems that there’s still no confirmation regarding Dianna Agron’s return for season 4. Would you want her to return to Glee given the treatment of Quinn’s character so far? (b) Do you think it’s possible to do something in Glee season 4 to remedy some of the damage done in the season 3 storylines? Or is Glee too far gone for salvaging?

Hi, Anon!

I’m flattered that you think enough of my opinion to ask.  Here’s your answer. I hope it’s worth a read, lol.

a) This one is a tricky one, I must admit. As a fan of Glee, I would hate to see Quinn leave. She has always been one of my favorite characters on the show, mostly because of Dianna and for the amount of potential that Quinn represents in terms of storyline value.  Written correctly, Quinn could have become quite the dynamic, interesting character. There is a lot to explore with her. For example, is her home life different from when her father was around? Is her mother a good parent or is she as idle as she was when Russell kicked Quinn out? How did Quinn originally handle the Beth adoption? And of course, the aftermath of the car crash that we were all denied of. All of that could have been some really great television and given us a better insight on the character. However, that being said, as a more rational-minded person, I wouldn’t blame Dianna for not coming back. The fact is that for all the potential Quinn harbors, the writers seem to love to use Quinn as their plot punchline, so to speak. She literally is their vehicle for every ridiculous plotline they have cooked up, and we are expected to suspend our disbelief to a point to accept that a girl plotting to snatch her biological child is a really awesome idea that would plausibly appear in Quinn’s mind. Even as canonical evidence suggests that she has changed and evolved as a character, they seem to always have her regress back to that core season one archetype, which, frankly is bad storywriting and a severe lack of continuity. We can see in actions and behavior that Quinn isn’t the same and that she has changed. I mean, to go from the cliffhanger of a carcrash to the next episode being about Blaine and his brother? Yeah, I really didn’t care about how Blaine feels inferior to his brother. I cared about Quinn and how people reacted to the accident, how she got better, and how she handled that first shock of her situation. To see them essentially disregard that and jump forward really ticked me off and seemed like a slap in the face to Quinn’s character. So, yeah, I definitely wouldn’t blame Dianna for jumping ship, so to speak. She deserves better as an actor and as a person. Will I be devastated? Of course! But I’d get it.

b) The second one is even trickier. Do I believe Glee season 4 will somehow salvage the series? To be honest, I really don’t. At the end of this season, we see a majority of the main cast leave (supposedly). While some are apparently staying around, the dynamic won’t be the same, and that also means we will have to give our hearts to a new set of characters while leaving a bunch of plotlines from the original New Directions largely unfulfilled. For example, will Santana ever get her grandmother’s approval again? This may seem like a minor detail, but for fans of Santana and how they handled her coming out so callously and negligently, that would be something that I would have loved to see as a sort of resolution to the character. However, it is still television; as we’ve seen, the writers can change the direction of the show at whim. It’s like after every episode, we wipe the board clean and start over again, conveniently forgetting any progress made the previous episode. Is it bad storytelling? Yes. Is it a lack of continuity? Of course. But that seems to be the problem with this season. The biggest problem I’ve had with Glee is the guise of intent vs. the actual evidence they’ve presented us in canon. My best example is Finn. The writers have intended him to become the leading man hero who is the cornerstone of right and wrong.  However, canon suggests otherwise. From season one, we’ve seen him make mistakes that go against what the writers intend him to portray. The first few times were understandable, allowing him to learn and grow. But the thing with Finn is that he still hasn’t grown, and he still has remained largely selfish to his own desires so much that he is willing to have his fiancee give up her dreams - dreams, I might add, that already in motion - in order to be able to find himself. I’m sorry, but that’s wrong on so many levels. And, unfortunately, I don’t see things like that changing any time soon. It’s just my opinion, but I really don’t feel like Glee is worth watching if these latest episodes are the caliber of what I’m going to get. It’s heartwarming to see Kurt come out so beautifully to Burt. It’s not so much to see Santana viciously outed in the middle of a crowded, school hallway because someone got a little butt-hurt. Don’t get me wrong, I will always love the show for what it has given me, and I will always stay strong to my given fandom, but a large part of me thinks that immersing myself in fanfiction and the like would cause me much less heartache.

Thanks again for your question, I hope this response is satisfying enough!

Little Duckling: Chapter 11

NOTE: Please note that the rating to this fic has changed to an M designation!

I am so sorry! I wish I had like a supremely awesome excuse for this two month gap in updates, but real life got in the way. First, a weird flu wreaked havoc at work, then I caught the weird flu. I’m also studying to take the LSAT in June, so a lot of my effort is being put into that as well. I hope this makes up for it!

I also don’t really know much about USC’s academic programs other than what I’ve heard from friends and what I was able to research from the Internet, so if this is inaccurate and someone wants to shed light on it, that would be awesome. Baby Bonnie’s is a fictional coffee house, modeled after my own college coffee house where a lot of this story was created.

Also, there will be some lady lovin’ in this chapter and throughout the rest of the story, so I will be upping the rating permanently. Lol, also keep in mind that realistically, the D&H movie wouldn’t go into that much detail with Sloane/Mia’s love scene and keep the optimal PG-13 rating I’d imagine this story would have, but for the sake of the story, I’m indulging you all a little bit.

I was a little anxious on getting this chapter out, so there might be a few mistakes. I’ll be back to fix them, though!

Onward, ye patient readers!
